College of Science was founded in 1968 in Sulaimania City . It started with undergraduate studies awarding B.Sc. degree in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In 1976, Geology Department was founded. Later, in 1981 College of Science has moved to Erbil City and now in Environmental Sciences (starting from 2007). As for postgraduate studies, the start was with M.Sc. degree in Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, while in 1978, Physics M.Sc. degree has commenced.
    In December 1981, this college equally with other colleges in Sulaimania University and due to politic reasons were transferred to Erbil to be part of Salahaddin University. In 1986 , awarding M.Sc. degree in Geology has begun. Ph.D. degree in Biology and Chemistry were the first to be established in 1992, but for Geology and Physics, it was in 1998 and 2002 respectively.
      The college is committed to offering high quality programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Consequently, our students will serve in careers in different fields e.g. laboratories, industrial establishments, oil companies with great efficiency and reliance. Also, the college is dedicated to train intermediate and high school teachers.
